I just turned 19 years old on Nov 15 2011. When I was around 13 years old I took Accutane for severe acne for about a year. I got the regular and expected side effects such as dry/cracked lips, sore joints (still sore) and sun sensitivity. I was relatively tall at 13 being 5’8 which is expected because both of my parents are over 6 foot. However I havent grown an inch since. Im still 5’8. I have 2 very tall brothers and tall parents so when I turned 18 I decided to look up why I may be shorter than the rest of my family. I found out that Accutane can stunt growth platelets almost immidiately after beggining the treatment. Ever since I’ve contributed the Accutane to my shortness. Now I’m curious if someone qualified to tell me, could tell me if I have any hope of growing anymore (mind you I havent grown in about 6 years) and if there’s anything at all I can do to help reverse this effect to any extent.

P.S. After taking Accutane I’ve found it much much harder to drop weight and build muscle. Before taking it I was extremely muscular with very little body fat. Ever since the treatment fat has been much harder to lose and serious workout brings very little reward. Could this be due to Accutane?

I didn’t kno acutane contributed to height loss but actually after taking it when I was 13 I didn’t grow since..I’m 5’1
About the weight stuff..I was skinny b4 taking it and during the treatment I was even skinnier but after taking it I’ve been gaining weight and can’t lose weight easily
Maybe it is due to accutane

I have also heard stories from other people I know who took Accutane who swear that the drug stunted their growth. For example, I had one friend who was always 2-3″ taller than me growing up. His parents were pretty tall, and when he was younger he was projected to grow to be 6ft4. However, he only ended up at 5ft10 and I passed him up about a year after he started taking it. Could be just a coincidence but I am not sure. There is very little medical evidence to indicate that Accutane truly stunts growth, but I do not think there have been many true medical studies as it is tough to demonstrate how tall people would have been with or without the drug.
